Omar Khayyam

Omar Khayyam (1048–1131) was a Persian mathematician, astronomer, and poet from Nishapur. In his own time he was especially respected for work in algebra and calendar reform; English-language readers later came to know quatrains attributed to him through Edward FitzGerald’s freely adapted Rubáiyát, though the authorship of many verses remains uncertain.
