Epictetus

Epictetus (c. 55–c. 135 CE) was a Greek Stoic philosopher born into slavery in Hierapolis and later freed. He taught that freedom and tranquillity begin by distinguishing what lies within our control—our judgments, choices, and responses—from what does not; his student Arrian preserved his teaching in the Discourses and the Enchiridion.
