Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens (1812–1870) was an English novelist, journalist, and social critic whose vivid characters and serialized stories helped define Victorian literature. Drawing in part on childhood hardship and close observation of London life, he wrote works including Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Bleak House, A Tale of Two Cities, and Great Expectations.
